New website launch

front1

As most of my friends will be the first to inform me, my old website was outdated, amature and really did not do a great job of showing off what it is I’m capable of doing.  Because of this, I’m launching my new website within the next week.  This time it will be based off of a professionally designed flash website complete with galleries and slideshows.

The site will be reachable at www.studio602photography.com.  Until then, preview the new site at www.studio602photography.com/antonio

Let me know what you think!

Greener Photography’s Newest Member

Greener Photography Logo

I just received the notification that I have been accepted into the Greener Photography organization.  This is an organization dedicated to the advancement of Green principles among professional photographers.  I am proud that my small changes have been enough to warrant acceptance with this organization.  In an effort to be “greener”, I offer products from companies that use green methodologies.  For example, Finao, one of the album vendors I use ships by UPS ground by default.  This small change means that it takes me 3 days longer to receive the album, but much less fuel is used and fewer emissions are put into the atmosphere as a result.

Photography today is greener than ever.  Gone are the days of disposable film canisters and harsh development processes.  On the other hand, powerful computers are now an integral part of the business.  Without the computer, the image recorded by the camera cannot be viewed, manipulated or even printed.

Moving to a new host

After much thought and debate, I’m going to be moving from 1&1 to godaddy for my hosting needs. This was a really tough decision, and I’m paid up with 1&1 through May. However at the end of the day it’s just not acceptible the amount of time that my site is inaccessible and the frequency with which I lose connection to the email servers.

Godaddy offers a plan which is very comparable to my current one, but with twice the throughput. This will be really important in a month or so as I am going to self-host a bludomain template based flash website, and also move my image galleries off of Smugmug and onto my own server, using RedCart or PickPik instead.

So if this blog disappears for a few days, it’s because of the transition. I’ve never moved a database driven site before from one host to another so this will definantly be a learning experience! Hopefully a good one!

A new video!

Steve Bailey over at refocus studios posted a video from a recent event I attended on Facebook. Check it out! Awesome!

A day with Eastern Shore Photog Shootout

Yesterday I took a trip down to southern Delaware to shoot with the Eastern Shore Photog Shootout.  I’d like to give a big shoutout to Rob Nicholson for organizing the event,  efotolab.com, Bayside Limosine,  Gloss Style Salon of Newark Delaware, and Piccolino in Lewes Delaware for their generous sponsorship, and Baywood Greens for letting us use their facility.  It’s really great that local vendors have supported us in our efforts to raise the wedding photography bar in the Philadelphia region.

Total drive time: 5.5 hours
Distance driven: 265 miles
Number of cheese steak sliders eaten: 6

Fun quotient: 7.5

That said, the drive was not bad despite our three nav systems all disagreeing with each other!  Yes, I did say three.  In an effort to be as green as possible, I took two additional riders along with me.  Made me feel all warm and fuzzy and environmentally friendly inside.  Well maybe not but it sure helped with the gas cost.  Anyways we had the built-in nav from Ford, an iPhone and VZnavigator on an Blackberry Storm.  Three devices and three different destinations.  Problem was that the Baywood Greens was not on our maps!  Turns out that the VZnavigator empowered Blackberry was the only one that actually had a clue (FWIW, the iphone uses Google Maps, which was clueless).  Lesson learned: trust VZnavigator.

So enough talking already!  Here’s a few images I was able to capture.  I love this stuff:)
